The Title

You might be wondering about the new title. Well, I will explain.

In the south, possibly in other regions as well, there is an old saying...Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free. Basically, if you are a woman and you live "in sin" with a man he will never marry you because he's getting all the perks of marriage without truly committing.

I had thought about starting a new blog all together but decided to stick with this one since there is a year's worth of writing on it. So, I just changed the look up a bit and changed the title. When I started this blog, I wanted to keep some sort of journal about all the ups and downs of being single in your thirties. My life has changed quite a bit since January 2007. I have gone from Single Girl to Cohabitation Girl. There have been other things, but they are not important to this post.

One thing you should know, I have never lived with a man. When I was growing up, it was just my mother, my sister and me. There was a brief moment in my late teens when my boyfriend lived at my mother's house with me...but living in an apartment, just Phillip and me, has proved to be A LOT different than that experience.

Phillip has been living here for about three weeks and it has been wonderful, but there are adjustments that I have had to make. The apartment that we now share is only about 600 square feet. Let me tell you, that is not a lot of room for all of our stuff. I had to clean out one side of the closet, so I had to get rid of some clothes that I don't wear all that often. There is only one bathroom so, as you can imagine, getting ready for work (or to go anywhere for that matter) has proved to be a little on the difficult side. I'm also not used to having to put the toilet seat down, I have never really had to deal with this as I have only lived with other females. And, I'm not sure how two people go through so much toilet paper. I have said before, I am a very girly-girl. He has been great about dealing with all the ballerinas and the pink, black and white bedroom. I have a bookshelf in the dining room that has teapots, books and other girly knick-knacks on it, I want him to feel like this is his home too so I added to the bookshelf his favorite action figures (dolls): Michael Meyers, Freddie Krueger, Jason Voorhies and Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy. Yes, he is very much about the horror movie. (Can you guess what my least favorite genre of movie is???) I am also using two of his Simpsons toys as bookends, it actually looks good in a weird, eclectic kind of way. We will also be putting my dining room table and chairs in storage to make room for his desk that he uses when he draws, it's kinda like a drafting table. We have decided that when the lease is up here we are going to find a two bedroom/two bath.

Even with the adjustments, these past three weeks have been great. I love waking up with him next to me, I love knowing that when I get home he will be there, and I love the fact that not only do I want to take care of him he wants to take care of me.

Until next time...

New Title, New Look

Well, as you can see, I changed the look of this little blog. But, all of my page elements went away and for some reason you can't see my archives from 2007. If you go down and click older posts they show up but if you click on 2007 there is nothing, so I don't know what's wrong the stupid thing. Maybe I'll email blogger, if any of you know how to make the archives come back, please let me know.

Until next time...

Big Changes...

I've been rather MIA lately, sorry about that.

As you can tell by the title, there have been some changes in my life recently. Some big and some, most people, would consider tiny. So, here we go...

1. I cut my hair, again.
I've said before, I have always had long hair. I have a very round face and always believed that if I cut my hair really short, I would look like a smiling basketball. A couple of weeks ago, I went and saw Hair Genius, she dyed my hair really dark brown (almost black) and gave me a, what I like to call, a "China Doll" cut. It is stacked in the back, the front sides are longer and frame my face and I have "Bettie Page" bangs again. I am totally loving my short hair, and it takes a lot less time to fix it in the morning!

2. I've decided that this will be my final year to participate with the Alumni Association I am a member of.
I have mentioned this association in past posts. We get together each year, choreograph and perform a dance in the drill team's spring show. It has been fun, but I get completely stressed out, because not only do I help with choreography for this dance, but I also choreograph the tap dance for the drill team. (This will be my final year to do this also.) I will still donate money and go and watch the girls perform. Don't get me wrong, I'm proud of the fact that I helped to start an association that awards scholarships to one of the girls each year, but it's time for me to step down.

3. Ginger and I are now living together.
This is probably the biggest change lately. Ginger has had quite a few problems with his apartment. He has had three different refrigerators, the air has went out, there was a leak above his shower and the final straw was his water heater sprung a leak and flooded his closet and bedroom. When he called and told me about this, he asked if he could come stay at my house. Once he got there, I told him to get out of his lease and just live at my place. He's there the majority of the time anyway, so what the hell. I know it seems fast, and it is, but it seems like we've been together longer than three months. We are both really happy with this decision. I have only lived with one other guy, but that was when I was 18 years old and we lived at my mom's house. (He had no other place to live. The fact that his parents didn't want him to live with them should have been my first clue that he wasn't the best of guys, but I was only 18, what did I know.) It's a totally different experience when you are both in your 30's and sharing a space. I'm am a girly-girl. My bedroom is pink, black and white. I have ballerinas all over the house. And now, there is boy stuff everywhere. I knew the move-in was official when he brought over the television (which barely fits in my armoir) XBox 360, Game Cube, and all of his DVDs, games and CDs.

So, if you are a regular to this blog, in the next couple of weeks you will probably notice some changes.

Until next time...

The birthday weekend that totally ROCKED!!!

OK, so...Saturday I turned sweet 32.

Friday night when Ginger arrived at my humble abode, he walked in the door with a vase filled with tulips. I asked him how he knew were my favorite and he said, "You said something about it a while back." I was shocked...it's a guy, that listens! So, I took the flowers from him and he picked up a box from the ledge outside that was wrapped...in Christmas paper. (I give him kudos for taking the time to wrap the present.) So, I opened the big box and there were little presents wrapped inside the big box. The first one I opened was a CD that I have been looking for...it's the new Horrorpops album. (It's awesome, I highly recommend it.) Then, I opened the next box, it was a very cool book called The Golden Age of Advertising - the 70's. It has all the print ads from 1970 - 1979 for things like cars, alcohol, tobacco, clothes, etc... It even has an add for a doll call Gay Bob, complete with closet. (I am on a mission to find a Gay Bob!) Anyway, the third thing I opened was a picture he drew for me.

The picture on the right is a photograph taken of me when I was 15 or 16, it's the only one I have of me en pointe. I collect ballerinas (pretty ones, not cutesy ones like pigs in tutus) I almost cried when I saw this. It is probably one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received. So, after all the gifts were opened we went out for sushi. I'm so excited, I'm dating someone who likes sushi!

Saturday, we got up and went to The Mother's house and visited with them for a little bit, then we went to Casa de Doodle and hung out over there for a while. It was so sweet, all three of the little Doodles made me cards. That night we went to Mother of Three's and rode out to Henry Hudson's to meet Katy Dweller and PR girl to celebrate our birthdays. (In case you didn't know, Katy Dweller & I share a birthday.) We had such a good time, Ginger hit it off with my friends and there is even talk of Katy Dweller & PR Girl going to the cabin with us one weekend. Luckily, Mother of Three's husband drove out there because there was no way Ginger or I could have drove home. We spent the night at their house and the next day Mother of Three cooked lunch for us. If you don't know Mother of Three, you need to meet her. Not only is she a great cook, she takes EXCELLENT care of you when you are in a drunken/hungover stupor. I would like to say thank you to her for allowing us to sleep in her children's bunk bed. (This is the second time Ginger and I have slept on the bottom bed...once at Doodlebug's and now at Mother of Three. It's actually not bad, especially if it's the kind with the full size bed at the bottom.)

You would think my birthday stuff would stop there, but no...I got back from lunch today and checked the mail at work and found a yellow envelope that said attn: Single Girl. I was confused, I never get mail at work. When I opened it, this was inside...

It was from Ginger. Look at it, it looks like a card from a Hallmark store...but it's not. Ginger drew that. I wasn't lying when I said he was an amazing artist. Here is what the inside says...

Single Girl.

Any words I could come up with couldn't get across how much I love you. You are a beautiful, incredible person, who I can't believe I found. I only wish to make you as happy as you make me. You are with me all the time.

Love,

Ginger

I am the luckiest girl in the world. I am so glad that we found each other!!!

Until next time...

Another year down...

So, tomorrow is my 32 birthday...yay! (Can you detect the sarcasm???) I'm just kidding, my thirties have been great!

Ginger is on his way over right now and I think we're going to dinner, then tomorrow night Ginger and I are going to a bar on Hwy 6 with Mother of Three and her husband to celebrate not only the day of my birth but also Katy Dweller's. This will be the second year that we've all gotten together for March 8th birthday festivities. I know I said that I wanted to have a roller skating party, but time got away from me and I was not able to put everything together. I'm thinking I might just throw together a day of skating, not so much to celebrate anything, just to get in touch with our inner 12 year old. Maybe I'll get a cake and we can celebrate everyone's birthday on the same day...what do you think????

If you'd like to join us tomorrow night, email me and I will let you know where we will be...It should be lots of fun!

Until next time...

Walking with Single Girl # 4

I had almost forgot about my "Walking with Single Girl" segment. What's sad is the picture I am going to post is from Christmas. I finally downloaded pictures from my camera...oops. Anyway, here you go...

I call this one FOUR PUMAS IN A KITCHEN.

This is Thing 2 and me in my Paw Paw's kitchen. I realized when we got there that he and I had the same shoes on. His are a lot cuter, as are most things that are really tiny.
